New release from ai team member Jacen Solo with his debut album ' Virgo '. Check the 'Forbidden Medicine' release on Ai from last year here, and also take a look over the Q and A with Doug himself this month in Tesselate.

"The nexus chase" takes you deep into pulsating cube dancefloor which is lined with transforming shapes that emit whipsnapping snare strikes whilst releasing a cloud of a.m gas that for a second knocks you off your feet. Glowing formations hover around your head like vultures over a fresh carcus, as a techno beat and computerised mumblings fold themselves together to form a fresh friendly hand which refreshes your rusty face with a hard slap to the cheek. Well pld Jacen.
"Elsewhere" has only one thing on its mind, and it is technically crazy whatever it is. This one is full of springy bass dives that sit seemlessly alongside correlating patterns of the same kind but in randomly generated colours each with a tiny voice that attempts to communicate through the thick atmospheric mist, whilst "Dstress" has you hijacking the hubble space telescope and focusing its huge cylindrical lense cavity on a single planet in the far distance. which sends back a head bobbing signal that is rich in infection and hidden spells which leave you wanting more. Memory modules for one and all.

Lean back and really take in the sights, as you stand in awe at the huge semi transparent gates which seem to be housing the sounds escaping from "Honour". Its a thick blend of 8bit fudgy squidges and almost wind like callings, that reverb and splinter in the air telling a story that only you understand but have no idea what its about. Very intelligent and head filling stuff, which is hard to put down. "That feeling" on the other hand takes you captive via a very simple but elaborate trap and jettisons you into deepest space on a one way mission to capture all the stars and bring them home. Programmed companions aim you in the journey and let off tiny hissy beat scratches as their stabilisation thrusters kick into action and pile alien air into the oxygen starved vacuum of space. Layer upon layer of unseen sound stutters and falls into place, creating a life rich film that encases your ship and provides a base for millions of tiny microbes to attach themselves to and begin their tranformation into beacons of energy and light which make your mission into the unknown a whole lot easier. Get this one on loud and soak it up, through your acetate feet.

BONUS track on the cd release, is "Encounter (am mix)" which is a whirlpool mix of diamond melting bubbles laced with underground beats that grow and reproduce many times over to infest every pour on your acetone ravaged body. Pure space music for the nightheads out there. Quality.

Jacen Virgo is well on form with this debut lp release, and the wait has sure been worth it. The album is a super concentrated stolen databank of galaxy exploring stories, whisked together using the arm from a language droid and the particle drive from your favourite satellite.

Electronic journeys into the early hours, that glow and puslate in your head for a long long time. Not one to miss.

Top quality.

Sam
