New
release on Boltfish from Mint.
"Life
in windscreen" drags you aboard a big wobbly platform
and plays ping pong with your ears, just for a laugh, whilst
bassy tones drop from the sky and slowly pull back up again
leaving traces of menace scattered with playfulness to zip
and flip around like drunk paperclips. This track is as
crisp as a freshly opened harddrive and as layered as 700
million trifles. Awesome stuff.
"For
you" invites you to swim in the a lake formed of marmalade
and frozen milk capsules, whilst the early morning murmurings
and movements from the artificial rushes cast a friendly
shadow over everything taking place, and the smooth guitar
strums and gentle piano tinklings keep it all in check. This
one unrolls itself into a broad imaginative slice of clever
music, cool stuff. "Hilltop" drops a more underground
style and takes elements of john carpenter esque soundtrack
atmospherics from the very beginning.A heavy broody bassline,
sits beneath a skipping and stuttering lifeform which seems
to be completely cast from light that spreads a warm layer
of peace over all in view. Check it.
"Midnight"
finishes off the release with a blend of piano and spaceship
conversation, that catches your eye in the dark of the night
and has you in an evil trance. Spindly laser strikes scuttle
throughout as the hissy gas powered melody gently rolls
itself along, powered by leaves and discarded batteries
which still have a part to play. Really thought out and
mesmorising stuff.
Happy
birthday to me slides another quality page into the c.v
of Mint. The release is full of atmopshere and plays like
a history of something special captured on a cd in audio
form for us all to enjoy. Definetly one to check out.
