Airecords are back for 2005 which this sampler showcasing
classics from the last 5 years and tempting us with five
brand new tracks.
The
classics on sampler the come from:
Claro
Intelecto with the killer "2000", from the Produce
comppilation.
Yellotones "Cool blue albion" from his lp Tar
File Junction.
FZV's "old stripey jumper" taken from his debut
ep ' Enclosure '.
Normal's " Slowknit" from the compilation cd "Leisure".
"Obsession" by Confutatis on his 2004 ep ' Light
reflects sound '.
Montag's "Mary Miracles" released on the ' Objects
perdus ep'
and finally "True" by SWF on the ' Newtown' Compilation.
All
of these tracks have been previously reviewed by Tesselate, check

Now
on with the new stuff...
Yunx
kicks it off with a new track ' Dis go funk ur ass' from
his forthcoming album " " (review coming this
issue). Its very broody and calculating from start with
a very subby bassline which is kicked into action once the
snare drum whipbot and cymbal flies come into effect. This
one reminds me of the classic warp style as it broadcasts
huge images into the sky with a funky edge, and injects
secrets about large complicated landscapes into your brand
new memory portal without even asking. Looking forward to
the album. One third of the team behind AI is up next under
his musical guise ' Normal ' with the unreleased track as
of yet "dubh oh dubh". Glassy rattles and ghostly
ricochets fill the air as this one gradually builds itself
from the selection of interlocking parts available. Once
up on its new feet, the newly created machine is still not
that stable and wobbles around unknowingly dropping spare
springs and memory valves from its makeshift head. This
one has the air of unknows intelligence about it, and is
a good sign for new music from Mr Normal.
Subside
return from their very first outing on the ' Station ' compilation
with " Scarletts theme", and take it to another
level of machine led zapattack. Pow, crash zip, zap pang
click....its time for Subside to show us how its done. From
the very beginning of this track, you have the feeling this
one is going to blow up, and it does. The magical almost
timeless piano led melody has an edge of elegance and is
carved from the finest crystal which is then shot forward
in time to explore the darkest depths of space. Clouds of
unknown bacteria cover the newly shaped device as it carries
out endless experiments and calculations in tiny pockets
of time that barely exist, whilst fragmenting shards of
glitch and reverb just join in for a laugh, this is absolutely
stunning stuff.
"Shake"
from Jacen Solo is up next. Ticking remains of a unexploded
machine are the only signs of 'life' in this place, just
before a head shaking bassline and crisp as hell drumstrike
take control and inject colour into the mono surroundings.
Sirens call out from the distance, alerting the unseen army
that your presence has been felt and the air quickly fills
with beeps zaps and rotating beats which layer themselves
into a pattern of immense scale, never ever seen before.
Jacking robot vibes for us all to love. Jacens new album
is also reviewed this issue. Sinner DC were another debut
artist on the ' Station ' compilation, with the quality
"Alice", and this time we are treated to 'Wintertown'.
Memory inducing waves of sound laced with a pinch of static
completely take over your thought process, as thought altering
vocals bounce from ear to eye to brain in millisecond exact
timing which trips your metallic carcus into a hard reboot, and
leaves you under DC's spell forever. Awesome stuff.
The
final track on the sampler is Michael Mannings " Insect
potentiality" from his upcoming album ' Public'. Tapping
into your block stacking, tree climbing, ice cream munching
childhood, Manning activates the secret doorway into your
swelled caffeine fuelled brain and lets the magic escape,
with this beautiful, parallax munching, platform based tunnel
into the middle of yesterdays forgotten dreams. The vocals
in this one are stunningly smooth and
excellently hacked and altered when need be. DAMN fine is
what I say about that.
Well how do them pesky AI bots do it. This sampler shows
us the quality of music and artists we have to look forward
this year, and I for one cannot wait to hear what is waiting
for us in the future. Awesome stuff AI.
