Its
been a hell of a time coming, but finally we have the long
awaited first album from Quinoline Yellow. Time to check it
out. Check out the Q and A with Mr QY in this issue of Tesselate.
'
Sealed ' starts it all off with a trademark QY melody, which
hangs in the air like a haunting presence and is shaken
around in the air like a ragdoll by the machines glitchy
beat outburst which shouts from below. This track is deconstruction
of a cathedral caught on paper, and then fed through a photocopier
which has been pumped to the gills with mind altering drugs,
is fltered through layers of shattered plastic and gradually
refined to a clear pulsing liquid and slowly poured down
the side of a multi storey car park. Excellent.
'
Arnica ' takes you on an emergency trip deep inside the
bowels of a fuzzy machine that is stuck in a jittering rewind
/ ffwd position, and its your job to free this steel monster
from its predicament. Organic, metallic and littered with
strikes of cut up audio, lets do this, lets do exactly this.
' Trad marc 9 ' activates the alarm and sends out hordes
of glowing robots towards you and your so called army, and
from the dark tower of a headquarters in the background,
unleashes an amazing barrage of light bombs covered by a
dazzling lazer assault wave. I would run for your tiny tiny
life, MORTAL. Awesome stuff.
Deep intelligent and crunched to the maximum, welcome to
' sheep dip'. Sheets of acetate which have been pressed
into small cubes burst into life and take back the shape
they used to be. Intricate and meticulous as a bird building
a nest out of fibre optic cables, laying grenade shaped eggs
and watching them explode in silence, then laughing as they
hit you with bassy waves of intelligence. Heavy and light
all in one. ' Off ground touch ' washes you all over with
a goose bump melody as thick as treacle but almost transparent
in consistency, whilst squelchy beat patterns and playground
memories dance around like its some sort of secret ceremony
you dont know about. Quality.
'
Plot return ' takes you to the middle of yesterday, then
throws you back into tomorrow, and hammers you with a punching,
steel bending glass melting crunch melody which sounds like
a drain eating humans in the dead of night. I love the beats
in this one, as they stammer and crack away. Machining skills
of the highest degree.
'
Tuppence Sword ' smashes you around inside the steel perforated
stomach of an inside out washing machines, and you are joined
by perfect cubes of sea shells, smiling batteries and a
brain penetrating melody that means something to you, but
its impossible to remember what. Intelligence covered in
iron filings, and force fed to androids. ' Lidding stock
' is pure industrial hammering distortion politics for all
you shredders out there, with a deep space habit, whilst
' if i was tickled by the rub of love ' lays you gently
down in a hologram field, full of 3d flowers and pixelated
cows and just lets you soak it all in. Orchestral runblings
in the dotted mind of a rogue processor.
Yehhhh lets go...its ' brochwel ysgithrog ' time. Hammering
and stammering, this one lets loose seven gillion bass mortars
into the sky and kicks back in a plexliglass deck chair
and just watches the chaos ensue. Rainbow monsters rise
from the bubblegum hills in the distance and stride towards
the destructive maniac causing this madness, causing a calming
melodic soundtrack to float throughout, but its only a matter
of time before the colourful lifeform gets jacking to this
one, its imposible to stop yourself.
'
Dulcis ' is the best game soundtrack you have ever heard
carefully intertwined with a luminescent rope that has just
escaped from a dark dark factory, causing the length of
technology to emit a powerful anti establishment pulse of
power which coarses throughout the atmosphere melting anything
in its path it doesnt like the look of. ' Skion kop ' is
a platform based jaunt through the dual coloured world of
the cleverest bionoids out there. Riding on the back of
half a dragon crossed with a power pill, you witnessed this
eye melting world in all its glory, as it finely tunes your
underused mind to the finest degree. Pure excellence.
This
album is more than you have been waiting for, Quinoline
Yellow has created a masterpiece of an album that delivers
from all the squashed, crunchy, and atmospheric rocket launchers
it has trained on you. I wont even bother anymore trying
to say how good this is, just get it and listen, and I GUARANTEE
you will be amazed.
