Troubleshooter
is the work of Rob Holloway ex-member of notorious electroid
operators Bitstream. His sounds has evolved from the burning
embers of old skool electro - a fragmented tower of squashed
beats and malfunctioning machines battling it out with layered
harmonies and reflective synths. "Disaster recovery"
is Troubleshooters second EP for the Modern Love label.
"Spectral
realm" instantly takes you into the heart of a dark,
dark place. Scuttling machines and ticking dials call out
from their welded position, as electronical zaps cut through
the heavy sky revealing glimpses of the warped creations
that fill the space above. The beat regresses into a heavy
cloud like state for a brief second, then explodes, jettisoning
a powerful wave vertically upwards, which disperses the
collected gloom and brings a new optimism of life to this
once bedraggled planet. Cool. "Electroconvulsive treatment"
blips and beeps its message out the masses, then hammers
each and every person with a pounding bassline, that hangs
back in the distance spitting out a rhythm and melody like
heavy artillery fire, dispersed through layer upon layer
of material. Soak this one up right up.
"Data
polling" looks you in the eye and then transports you
to a secret level where the springy pulse people live. These
weird people sure do love their craziness. Get ready to
revel in the jewel enriched smile fantasy that they show
you around, its energy giving stuff, whilst "Medieval
Monastery" smashes itself to pieces with a tiny pointed
hammer, then thinks about what its done and realises that
its a loon. Huge barrels of metal items fall into a dark
unseen watery hole, creating a sinister atmopshere, but
this is only until the cathedral like melody reveals itself
and stands on all the opposition with amazing grandeur and
rotating lazer strikes, tied together with an ornate golden
string, rich in ozone.
Superb track.
"Xenaphobia"
is robot territory, just you be careful out there. Reboots
and downloading harddrives all mumur, beep and click rattle
around you whilst Cylon style verbals keep you informed
of your journey. This is a warped world of flashing bulbs,
spinning samples and partioning machinery, that is just
having fun.
Disaster
recovery ep is another solid cool as cool release from Troubleshooter.
If you need a reason to enter this hi tech world, Medieval
Monastery is just that, if you havent heard it before you
are in for a treat.
Love
it
